Exit and emergency light testing

Exit light testing

All commercial and industrial buildings must adhere to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2293.2:1995 for Exit and Emergency lighting. There is a duty of care for all premises to have safe and clear egress away from the building incase of a life threatening event.

Australian Standard AS/NZS 2293.2:1995 states that exit and emergency lighting must be tested in accordance to “…The procedures specified in clauses 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 …” and not exceed intervals of more than six months.

This applies to both central and single point emergency lighting systems. Most installations are comprised of a single point design which incorporates exit and emergency lighting.

All existing exit and emergency lighting shoud be labelled so they can be identified for testing and recording of individual results.

All Emergency Exits need to be clearly marked by an Illuminated exit sign and exit signs must effectively show the way from any location on the floor to the exits of your building

All Enclosed spaces in your building must have emergency lights (this includes the storerooms and server rooms) with building stairwells having emergency lights for adequate lighting in an emergency

Light illumination must be maintained for 90 minutes to record a pass.

Before tests are carried out we ensure that no interruption to the normal supply has taken place for at least 16 hours. We do observe a 24 hour recharge to ensure proper battery function and that the conduction of the test will not be interfered with by the disconnection of the normal power supply.

A record of all testing is kept and filed. We pass on the results of all test to the property managers and/or owners.
